2024 First Day Hike

  • Brookdale Preserve 66 Brook Road Rochester, NY, 14623 United States (map)

Start the New Year off with a walk/roll on the Genesee Greenway Trail.

Enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding wooded wetlands while looking for birds, animal tracks, or other signs of wildlife. Plus there will be a fun Storybook Trail to read as you go.

We’ll start at Brook Road and go north toward Black Creek. This walk can be as long as 4 miles total - 2 miles to the double-arched stone culvert over Black Creek then 2 miles back. You’re welcome to walk at your own pace and for as long or short as you like.

Genesee Land Trust will provide warm drinks and light snacks after the walk.

The parking lot is dirt and there’s a grassy/snowy incline up to the road and trail entrance. The trail is flat, made of stone dust (not plowed), and wide enough for at least four people side by side. There are no benches. State Parks plans to provide a porta potty.

For accessible parking options or other questions, please contact Elliotte Bowerman at ebowerman@geneseelandtrust.org or 585.256.2130.

Dress warmly and wear boots! Depending on snowfall, you might want to bring snowshoes if you have them. You can learn more about the Brookdale Preserve where we’ll start by visiting our website: Brookdale Preserve — Genesee Land Trust
